This sailing course will give you a solid foundation for getting started with sailing. This means whether you have plans to buy your own sailboat, become a competent crew or just want to find out if sailing is something you like, this course will provide you with the basics. If you have some previous experience with sailing, but want to learn more about the theory and gain more practical exercise to become a better sailor, this course will also be suitable to you.
The course will mostly take place at sea with practical exercises under guidance. As a participant you will have plenty of time for practicing. Our sailing instructors will make sure to follow up on each individual participant for individual feedback.
On our sailing courses, there will never be more than 4 participants, giving the instructor plenty of time to follow up on the individual.
The sailing course lasts for one weekend with a total of 15 hours of active teaching. The course begins on Saturday and Sunday at 10.00 am, and we will continue until around 17.30 pm both days. We are arranging this sailing course in Tromsø, Bodø, Harstad and Narvik.
Our sailing courses are well organized both pedagogically and in terms of content. Before attending this course, you will get access to our digital learning portal, where you will have time to read about sailing theory and study various illustrations. In this way you will be able to prepare for the sailing course at your own pace. In the beginning of this course we will take you through the most important theory, so it would be quite possible for you to participate on the sailing course without reading theory in advance as well.
Our sailing instructors are well experienced and will always share their knowledge regarding specific topics that happen not to be included in the program for the sailing course as well. For everyone to learn at their best, our instructors are also concerned that there should be a relaxed atmosphere on board.
Welcome aboard our sailing boat for an exciting and educational weekend at sea!

If you have some previous experience with sailing, but want to learn more about the theory and gain more practical exercise to become a better crew, this course will also be suitable to you. This sailing course fits even if you just love the sea and the outdoor life, and want to find out if sailing can become something you like.
During this sailing course we want to give participants a basic understanding and skill in sailing and practical boat handling. The course is designed for as much time as possible at sea with practical exercises under guidance.
We meet on Saturday at 10.00 am. Look for the sailboat with the Sail Senja flag.
We will spend time until lunch getting to know the sailboat and the equipment. We will also talk about safety, and we will learn a little about sailing theory and some rules of the road at sea. After lunch at about 13 pm we are ready to set sail.
Once we have reached the sea, we will have an exercise in the “man overboard” situation. Just relax, no one has to take a swim here! Then we are ready for today’s practical sailing exercises.
The rest of the time this day we will practice sailing at different wind angles (cross, veil and boom) and adjust the angle of the sails correctly in relation to the wind (trim joints). We will also practice swinging the boat so that the wind comes in from the opposite side (blow and jib).
Each participant will receive individual feedback and guidance along the way, and we will switch seats so that everyone can practice the same tasks on board.
At about 17 pm we will head back to the harbor.
After a good night’s sleep, we will meet at 10 am by the sailboat.
We will start this day talking about more advanced ways to adjust the sails (sail trim), and how we can reduce the size of the sails for controlled sailing in high winds (reef). We will set sail at about 11.30 am and get ready for today’s exercises at sea.
We will spend the most of this day at sea doing practical sailing exercises under guidance.
We will find a good anchorage and have lunch at about 13 am. After a nice meal, we are ready for the last theory session of the course. We then talk about maneuvering in port, mooring, and we learn about handling sails and ropes.
After some further exercises at sea until about 16pm, we will head back to the harbor. Now we are getting ready for the weekend’s last exercise; docking the boat.
