Qualifications needed

There are a lot of things we need to know when we are sailing. To be able to get where we want, it is obviously not enough just knowing how to adjust the sails correctly in relation to the wind.

As skippers, we must have a good grasp of everything from preparing the boat, the equipment and the engine, to being able to read and understand the weather forecast and make a plan for a voyage. In addition, we must of course know the rules of the sea and be able to navigate and maneuver the boat in a safe and secure way. We also need to know the procedures for different emergencies that can occur on board a boat.

Become a safe and competent skipper

In this sailing course, we are especially focused on helping you become a safe and competent skipper. We will go through a numerous of exercises in sailing, navigation and maneuvering of sailboats. In addition, you will get to practice different safety exercises as well as the role as skipper on board.

This sailing course is suitable to anyone who has some previous experience with sailing, whether you have been participating in a beginner’s course or been a skipper on a sailboat for a limited time. If you think you need an evaluation on your qualifications for this sailing course, feel free to contact us for counseling!

Do you have a lot of experience with sailing, navigation and boat handling and just need the test for ICC? See our practical test for ICC.

This sailing course runs over 2 full days plus one evening, a total of 20 hours of teaching and exercises. The course starts on Friday at 17.00 pm and ends this day at about 22.00 pm. On Saturday and Sunday we will start at 10 am and end at about 17.30 pm both days.

International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for sailboats

On the last day of this sailing course, you will be able to take the practical test for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), which is a necessary certification to be able to rent a sailing boat abroad. Choose whether you want to take the test to the ICC upon registration for this sailing course.

In order to take the test for the ICC, which is voluntary, you are required to have a boat driver’s license from before. You can easily get this online from our partner NMKS. Sign up today! The ICC test can also be taken at a later time.

Several providers of rental boats have an ICC requirement for two persons on board. We therefore want to encourage more than one person in a family or group of friends to do the practical test. This will also significantly improve safety on board.

In collaboration with Norsk Maritimt Kurssenter (NMKS)

The ICC test is arranged in collaboration with the Norwegian Maritime Evening School (NMKS), where NMKS is approved by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate as a provider. Seil Senja AS is the organizer of the sailing course itself and is also an approved examiner for the ICC test at NMKS.
