The purpose of this sailing course is to make you a more experienced and safer skipper. During a full 7 day course with accommodation, we will also sail on a trip in Norway’s most beautiful coastal and sea areas.
In this sailing course you will learn a lot, from preparing a trip and the technical preparation of the sailboat, to reading and understanding waves, currents and weather forecasts and planning day by day. Safety is one of the main focuses in this sailing course, and you will also learn about sailing in open waters.
As in all our sailing courses, the teaching form will be nice and casual. In other words, as a participant in this sailing course you can also look forward to a memorable and social week of holiday with a lot of exciting sailing and great experiences in nature.
As a skipper, you have a great responsibility on board. First of all, you are responsible for life and health, that the boat is in a technical and seaworthy condition, and that it is handled in accordance with the rules of the sea. It is also important that a skipper can communicate in a nice and understandable way, even in stressful situations.
Becoming confident in the role as a skipper is something that will develop over time, along with more knowledge and experience. Being a participant in this sailing course, we hope you will experience development, and as a result become even better and safer in the role as a skipper.
It is something about the infinite sea and the mighty nature that appeals especially to us when we are on a sailboat. Crossing an open sea area is a very special feeling, and people who have done exactly this will most certainly agree to it.
Ocean sailing is on the other hand quite different from coastal sailing; On the high seas, we are very exposed and vulnerable to the unexpected. Therefore, ocean sailing requires more planning and better preparation of the boat and equipment.
In this sailing course we will do one or more ocean passages. We will learn more about what is required of us as skippers, together with requirements of the boat and the equipment. We will also learn about different types of safety equipment such as Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), AIS and SART.
Our annual Skipper & Ocean sailing course to Lofoten lasts from 7-13th of August, 2022
We will meet in Bodø and sail north to the nice archipelago in Steigen. Then we will cross the Vestfjord over to Lofoten. In this sailing course we will visit places like Kjerringøy, Skrova, Henningsvær, Reine, Værøy and Røst.
